Three Deleted Scenes
newly released material from Things Hidden: The Life and Legacy of René Girard
Merry Christmas!
Things Hidden: The Life and Legacy of René Girard, directed by Sam Sorich and produced by Sam and yours truly, was released last Christmas on YouTube.
This year, to commemorate René’s birthday (December 25th), we’re releasing three scenes from the film that we would dearly have liked to include but that had to be cut for reasons of structure. I hope you enjoy them!
GIRARD IN THE SOUTH
René Girard recalls life in the South during his year as a medievalist at Duke University (1952-1953).
THE AGE OF THE SYMPOSIUM
In 1966, René Girard brings Jacques Derrida and other French luminaries to the US for a landmark symposium, launching the era of deconstruction.
DISCOVERING SHAKESPEARE
After leaving Johns Hopkins for Buffalo in 1968, René Girard discovers Shakespeare, “the arch-master of mimetic desire.”

Thanks for releasing this material. A very nice Christmas gift.
